For over 100 years, Mettrick's Butchers has been proudly serving the community of Glossop and beyond. Now in our fifth generation, we remain an independent, family-run business with the same passion for quality, craftsmanship and exceptional customer service that has been at the heart of everything we do since the beginning.

While our heritage is firmly rooted in traditional butchery, we're always looking for new ways to bring exciting, delicious food to our customers, combining generations of knowledge with fresh ideas and innovation.

We believe that great food begins with great ingredients, and knowing where our meat comes from is just as important today as it was over a century ago.

We work closely with trusted farmers and suppliers across the Peak District, North West and Midlands, carefully selecting quality meat with an emphasis on provenance, animal welfare and responsible sourcing.

From our locally sourced High Peak beef and lamb to our carefully selected free-range pork, we take pride in the quality of everything that reaches our counters.

Our skilled butchers prepare our meat with care and expertise, including our beautifully matured, 28-day dry-aged beef, ensuring exceptional flavour, tenderness and quality.

We believe in doing things properly, never compromising on quality or cutting corners. It's this commitment that has earned us the trust of generations of customers.

Although traditional butchery will always be at the heart of Mettrick's, we've grown into much more than your typical butcher's shop.

Alongside our premium fresh meat, you'll find an ever-changing selection of handmade sausages, burgers, marinated meats, stir-fries, oven-ready dishes and convenient meals designed to make everyday cooking easier.

Our talented in-house bakery team produces a delicious range of handmade pies, pastries, sausage rolls and sweet treats, combining traditional family favourites with exciting new creations.

We're constantly developing new products, listening to our customers and finding new ways to bring variety, convenience and exceptional flavour to the table.

An Award-Winning Family Business

Over the years, our dedication to quality and craftsmanship has been recognised with numerous regional and national awards, including Britain's Best Butcher, Britain's Best Pork Pie and Best Online Butcher.

More recently, our success has continued with national recognition for our handmade pies, sausages, bacon and barbecue products.

In 2026, we were especially proud to be crowned National Craft Butchers category champions for our Chicken Tikka Kebabs and Italian Bacon, alongside four Gold Awards for our products.

We've also been honoured locally, winning Food & Drink Retailer at the Glossop & High Peak Business Awards, with John Mettrick receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his contribution to the industry and local community.

These achievements are a testament to the hard work, dedication and creativity of our entire team, from our experienced butchers and bakers to the next generation of apprentices learning their craft.
