The great and the good of the meat industry came together this week to recognise and reward the winners of the Institute of Meat (IoM) and Worshipful Company of Butchers Awards.

North West Banger Champions 2012
Mettrick's has been announced as the North West winner of the British sausage week’s national banger competition, with its Manchester sausage entry.
We received the coveted "British Banger Award" from this year’s King of Sizzle and legendary stand-up star Al Murray after a fierce cook off final in Manchester.
The Manchester sausage is a traditional pork with nutmeg and mace. It was first mentioned in an 18th Century Recipe book and believed to have originated as a result of the early Nutmeg trade into Manchester.
Countryside Alliance Awards 2012 - Champion Butcher
Now in their eighth year, these awards are the Countryside Alliance’s annual celebration of rural produce and skills through small hard-working businesses.
Selected by a small judging panel, the champions for 2012 were decided across five categories with Mettrick's triumphing in the Butcher category.
The criteria for selected butchers included whether animal welfare was a priority, keeping traditional butchery skills alive and if they go the extra mile to support the local farming community.

National Sausage Week Legendary Banger Finalists, 2011
Mettricks were regional finalists in the legendary sausage competition with North West Champion Sausage; the pork with lemon marmalade & cracked black pepper.

Mettrick's Crowned "Best Traditional Business" 2010
John Mettrick awarded title of 'Master Butcher' by HRH Princess Anne
John Mettrick has been awarded the title "Master Butcher", one of only ten accolades in the UK.
The title recognises John's commitment to mastering the art of butchery to an exceptional standard.
When giving the award, particular Mention was given to Johns commitment & understanding of the Supply chain, and his close relationship with all elements of the supply process from farm to customer.
